I am an artist based in beautiful St. Paul, Minnesota. I’ve always been inspired by new places discovered on my travels, and in my daily life you might find me in a coffee shop sketching people, or doing watercolor painting in my home studio. After retiring 4 years ago from a 35-year career teaching art, I have the time to spend on my own creative pursuits and it is a dream come true.
When I retired, I moved from the suburbs to the city. Since then I’ve been to Europe four times…what a wonderful life! I’ve seen and sketched in Paris, visited Volterra, Italy for a watercolor workshop, traveled to Kent, England for another workshop and more sketching in London, and this past year to Amsterdam to participate in the Urban Sketchers Symposium.
When you travel, as many of you know, there is never enough time to see, do, eat or sketch everything that catches your eye. And so, like many others, I use my camera as my memory bank so that here at home, working in my sun-filled studio, I can relive all of it.
I’m excited to share with you a recent project I completed on Instagram: #the100dayproject #travelsketches. It includes 15 of the 100 watercolor-and-ink sketches that I did from August 29 to December 8, 2019. Each piece was done in my studio, from a collection of photographs spanning my travel adventures as far back as 1974, when I first went abroad in college. You can see the entire collection at @lylopa on Instagram.
The artworks are small (5″x7″), the cost of each is $25.00 plus tax, and shipping is free…So please take a look and drop me a line with comments, questions, or maybe even to purchase!
